Responsibilities: To undertake driving duties of relevant type of Ambulance vehicle to the required standard subject to appropriate training, driving vehicles carefully with every consideration being given to the passenger, any equipment, the vehicle itself , other road users and comply with the Highway Code and MET Medicals Policy guidelines and current Legislation . This role requires the ability to work with vulnerable, frail people, with the need for medical treatment at hospitals in a caring and compassionate way Ensure patients have a safe, smooth journey, complying with all relevant traffic legislation and driving with consideration for other road users. Where relevant check that patients have all the necessary requirements for their appointment or discharge, including paperwork and medication if appropriate. When collecting from home, request that the patients property is secured on leaving and that the patients have a means of entry back into the property on return.

The Ambulance Care Assistant is required to undertake daily vehicle checks to ensure that the ambulance vehicle is roadworthy these checks shall include for example. Oil, Water, Fuel, Tyre Pressure and Tyre Tread condition, Lights, Warning Devices etc. any defect to be reported using Fleetcheck or RADAR and record on any computerised system as required in accordance with Polices and Procedures To use the Moving Patient equipment provided: this will include the use of all types of carrying equipment such as chairs, stretcher, lifting aids etc. This will require the post holder to risk assess the best way to undertake the moving of patients taking into consideration their needs, both medical and cultural and to follow Health and Safety and other appropriate protocols and procedures.

To manoeuvre patients into ambulance vehicles using either the patients wheelchair or ambulance vehicle equipment and safely secure the patient and their equipment within the vehicle for the duration of the journey to and from treatment centres. To transport patients using such assistance as may be required to and from treatment centres as required/specified according to pre-determined schedules working to such contractual standards that may be in place. This will include End of Life patients Ensure that all patients are treated with dignity and respect in communications and actions, in particular taking account of cultural differences and disability and in line with the MET Medicals policy. To report any untoward incident immediately in accordance with MET Medical policy.

Maintain a professional image and attitude in regards to patients,, visitors and coworkers. Using service communications equipment, communicate regularly and effectively with the Patient Transport Control Room and MET Medical staff to ensure that work is planned effectively and efficiently. Assist in the delivery of local contract requirements by ensuring patients are moved within agreed timescales and where reasonably practicable. To carry out vehicle equipment checks and restock as required at the start of duty in accordance with MET Medicals Policy and Procedures, ensuring that the ambulance vehicle is properly kitted, cleaned (paying particular attention to infection control) and stocked, faults and omissions reported and all appropriate recording procedures completed.

To ensure that all clinical waste is disposed of according to MET Medical policy and current legislation To undertake all statutory and mandatory training commensurate with the role of an Ambulance Care Assistant To use all MET Medical equipment, facilities and premises in a careful, proper and mindful manner paying due regard to safety and security at all times. To maintain competency to operate all equipment and information systems used during the course of duties, ensuring the efficient and effective operation of equipment, and the safe use of equipment at all times, reporting faults in the appropriate manner. To wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) both uniform and additional kit supplied by MET Medical as required to support Infection Prevention and Control during normal duties in their role. The equipment should be kept clean and tidy and worn to the required standard in accordance with MET Medicals Policies and Procedures.

To accurately complete and administer information and documentation as necessary and in accordance with current General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR) requirements In addition to your primary responsibilities, you may be required to undertake ad-hoc tasks or respond to reasonable management instructions as needed to support the efficient operation of our healthcare services. REQUIREMENTS: Essential / Experience: At least 2 years experience of driving with a full manual UK driving licence – (No more than 3 endorsement points) Valid in date FREC 3 Certificate or Ambulance Care Assistant Certificate Excellent interpersonal skills with ability to communicate effectively at all levels Minimum of GCSE Maths & English Grade C or above To be flexible, approachable, calm, enthusiastic, honest and have integrity A caring attitude towards patients and the ability to show empathy Applicants require excellent communication skills and a good level of English (spoken and written).
