Senior Ambulance Care Assistant (Driver) – SACA
Location: Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital, Stanmore – HA7 4LP
Salary: £29,156.40 per annum
Full Time Shifts – 45 hours per week (various shifts available)

The Role
The Senior Ambulance Care Assistant (SACA) will play an important role in helping people receive the care they need.
Such responsibility requires empathy and compassion. These are skills you’ll build upon during our two-week initial training and development programme, alongside constant guidance from our expert support team. We’ll give you all the tools to build a meaningful career with us.
As an ACA with G4S Patient Transport Services, you’ll be transporting elderly, sick and vulnerable patients to their medical appointments and between healthcare facilities, whilst showing compassion in times of vulnerability. Together we’ll work together to ensure every journey we make supports our community, the NHS, and our patients.
This is an important role, providing excellent care and ensuring safety and patient welfare. A role where you’ll receive all the training you need to feel prepared in any situation that may arise.
Some of the key responsibilities will involve:
  • Motivate and monitor staff in order to develop and improve their skills, so that customer expectations are continually met or exceeded.
  • To liaise with Clinical staff to understand patient’s special needs and mobility to ensure their safe transport ensuring the patients dignity and respect is maintained.
  • Operate interchangeably as either driver or attendant in a single person or 2- person ambulance crew and act and promote teamwork to ensure high standards of service delivery.
  • Ensure the contracted service is delivered on a timely basis to the required standard in line with policies and procedures.
  • Available to transport patients as required.
  • Engage with Ward staff and patients to organise, and allocate resources, to optimise service delivery.
  • Liaise with external agencies as required, ensuring that contractual issues are resolved & co-operation is achieved.
  • Provide support and advice to Ambulance Crews
  • Undertake supervision of journey to ensure compliance
  • Undertake regular checks to ensure cleaning requirement/rota’s are achieved
  • Ensure vehicle and equipment checks are completed as required
  • Deal with staff matters which arise as first point of contact
  • Follow all appropriate safety procedures and report any potential hazards or possible misuse of the service to the Service Delivery Manager.
  • Carry out any other duties relevant to the role as directed by your Area Manager and/or Service Delivery Manager.
  • The post holder must not divulge any confidential information to an unauthorised person that they may access during their employment
  • Excellent patient feedback with no customer complaints
  • Vehicles and equipment always kept clean and fully maintained with any issues always reported in line with set schedules.
  • Fully up to date with manual handling techniques and use of equipment
  • Deadlines met for production of data and tasks completed
  • Vehicle and equipment servicing and maintenance records always accurate and up to date
  • Accurate up to date records kept in an easily accessible filing system at all times that meets all Company and Group standards
  • Good health and safety record with no accidents or health and safety issues
  • Works well within the team
  • Efficient information/data support service provided to Contract Manager and Assistant Contract Manager where appropriate
  • Mail collected and posted within time frames as set within the Contract
  • Helpful, pleasant and polite manner to colleagues and client at all times
  • Always maintains confidentiality
  • Assist with Team Leader and control duties as and when required.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE:

Desirable:
  • Categories C1 & D1 on driving licence
  • Previous Team Leader/Supervisor experience
  • Knowledge of Patient Transport Services
  • Experience of working in confidential environment
  • Basic literacy and numeracy are required
Essential Criteria
  • Full UK Manual Driving Licence
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team
  • Physically fit to ensure your safety and wellbeing of patients.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Sympathetic, respectful and caring attitude towards patients
  • Flexibility and adaptability in accordance with the needs of the service
