Full job description
We are looking for an experienced midwife practitioner who is confident in their safeguarding knowledge and skills, you will need to have been qualified for at least 2 years and have direct experience supporting women with mental health, safeguarding and migration issues. You will need to be compassionate, enthusiastic and with a sharp understanding of risk to unborn babies and their siblings. You must have experience of multi-disciplinary work and partnership work with external agencies, particularly Children’s social Care.
This post would suit someone who has accumulated a good range of experience with pregnant clients and their families in a community or acute setting and is able to demonstrate a keen interest and expert understanding of maternity safeguarding in relation to pregnant women and their families. This includes understanding and assessing social risk towards children and in an adult safeguarding context as the role covers a range of activities and all locations at Imperial healthcare trust in relation to pregnant women/people
You would need to deal with a number of administration tasks, so naturally excellent IT skills are essential (particularly word, excel, powerpoint etc). The role also includes patient-facing interaction and support to divisional staff as appropriate. The ability to prioritise workload depending on urgency and deadline working is must for this role. You will have a thorough understanding of the legal and social care processes that underpin Children’s Social Work in relation to pregnant women / people and their families in relation to the Children Act (2004) and other legislation (eg Domestic Violence Act 2020). You will need to have confidence and experience in attending, participating in and understanding the need for various MDT and external meetings in relation to safeguarding such as ICPCs.

In particular confidence in attending various MDT and external meetings in relation to safeguarding.
As a safeguarding support midwife, it will be your role to support the operational delivery of safeguarding practice across the Trust as part of the maternity safeguarding team. To adhere to national, regional and local legislation, policies and recommendations in particular the Children Act (1989 & 2004). To be confident in giving advice and support to staff in relation to maternity safeguarding by identifying risks and supporting staff to complete the appropriate referral to Children’s Social Care (CSC).
